Para Rowing
Ben Gallagher, former Special Forces now Professional Athlete suffered life changing injuries in 2019 whilst serving in the British Army. He was involved in an incident whilst on active duty where he was shot numerous times and received blast/fragmentation injuries to his upper torso and both arms, without a doubt the body armour he was wearing saved his life.
Following his injuries Ben went through a long period of recovery including months of rehabilitation but resilience, optimism and determination are qualities that highlighted his consistent drive to succeed.
As a veteran, athlete and explorer Ben has presented inspirational talks to charities, companies, the public sector and private groups and shares his story of dealing with complex trauma and overcoming adversity before going on to complete tough endurance events, outdoor expeditions and now represents Great Britain as an Elite Athlete. He is also an advocate for mental health having suffered and been diagnosed with Post Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD).
Ben is now a Para Athlete representing Great Britain in rowing. He is part of the World Class/Paralympic Academy Programme and has gone on to achieve Mens PR3 2000m British, European and World Indoor Rowing Champion. His aspiration is to compete at the Paralympic Games with a mission to promote para sports, encourage and inspire others whilst striving for excellence.
