Rowing
Cam Nyland is a semi-professional rower who has spent the last three years at Leander Club, honing her skills in elite sport.
After two years of development, 2024 marked her first year competing in the Senior GB trialling system. Cam has international experience, having raced at the 2021 Under 23 European Championships and being selected for the Under 23 World Championships, though COVID-19 restrictions prevented her from competing. Her career goals include breaking into the GB Rowing team in the coming years and aiming to compete in the 2028 Los Angeles Olympics.
Beyond rowing, Cam is passionate about environmental issues that impact her sport. Growing up at Warrington Rowing Club, she witnessed severe river pollution, from large debris to harmful plastics and even a dead body, which pose risks to both rowing equipment and athlete safety. Training on the Thames in recent years, Cam and her teammates have faced serious health risks, including infections from polluted water, fuelling her advocacy for cleaner, safer training environments.
Cam is also a strong advocate for equality in sports. She has experienced disparities in opportunities, particularly for women in rowing, and is committed to creating a more equitable environment. From her involvement in Warrington Youth Rowing, making the sport accessible to disadvantaged youth, to her efforts at Leander Club, Cam is determined to drive positive change for future generations of athletes.
