Wheelchair Rugby
Freya Levy, Essex Sports Personality of the year 2019 and Michael Johnson Young Leader. She credits sport for changing and saving her life after being diagnosed with Muscular Dystrophy at 14 ending an early career in Rugby and Football.
She’s gone on to represent England and Great Britain in 4 sports including winning U25 European gold, 2 silvers and a world championship bronze with wheelchair basketball, she currently competes internationally in 3; Wheelchair Rugby League, Para Ice Hockey and Wheelchair Basketball.
An advocate for diversity and women in the workplace, as well as disabled, LGBTQ+ and Jewish communities. She has been a pundit and commentator with the BBC for the Rugby League World Cup, faced homelessness and hopes to inspire as many people as possible to find their sport or activity regardless of barriers they face. “Sport is such a powerful tool and universal language that can change the world and bring communities together. Before disability sport, I was Freya in the wheelchair, when I play sport – I’m just Freya.
