Paul Ryb is a leading visually-impaired patient advocate, ophthalmic venture innovation specialist and guest lecturer championing living and succeeding with sight loss.
He is also the world champion visually-impaired tennis retired city veteran member of Team GB, sponsored by Wilson, and Sight and Sound Technology. He has won numerous British titles and won his World Championship title in Dublin in 2018. He is also a black-belt in Xen-Do kickboxing.
As an investment banking expert in the Telecoms, Media, and Technology markets, Paul achieved the level of Managing Director at Royal Bank of Scotland (RBS), Global Banking & Markets, and was awarded a host of industry peer awards, most notably from Institutional Investor.
His career began at HSBC James Capel in 1993 where he established himself as a rated Telecoms equity analyst before moving to a host of other banks (including Lehman Brothers for 10 years) becoming the lead TMT investment specialist in the market.
Despite losing his useful sight to Macular Degeneration in 2007, Paul continued at the highest levels in Banking before moving in 2016 to a private family office in London where he ran a strategic investment fund.
Most recently Paul has also launched the first dedicated ophthalmology Investment Banking practice in Boston.
Alongside his successful investment career, Paul has 10 years of board experience across Commercial, Public, and Charity sectors including prominent organisations such as the National Health Service (NHS) and the Royal National Institute of the Blind (RNIB).
As Vice Chair of The Macular Society UK, and member of the Fight for Sight Investment Committee, Paul has presided over substantial grant-making into the UK ophthalmic research market.
Paul delivers the annual “Living & Succeeding with Sight loss” lecture at the City of London University where he is a guest lecturer every term to 3rd year optometrist students.
