BMX
Declan Brooks (25) is a professional BMX athlete born and raised in Portsmouth on the south coast of the UK.
Declan has always had a burning passion for anything with two wheels. He started riding BMX at the age of 9 and has been competing for over 14 years.
Declan honed his talents at Southsea Skatepark, the legendary outdoor skatepark on Portsmouth’s seafront, before relocating to Corby in Northamptonshire to take his skills to the next level at Adrenaline Alley, Europe’s largest urban sports venue.
A combination of hard work and natural talent saw Declan quickly make a name for himself as one of the best riders in the UK. As well as becoming dominant force on the competitive BMX circuit Declan also found time to work as a stunt performer on a number of films and adverts, including several Bollywood productions, Halfords and Cadbury’s TV ads and the hit movie Mary Poppins Returns.
In 2017 Declan had the opportunity to travel to the USA and Canada with Cirque Du Soleil visiting Miami, Toronto and Montreal. This once in a lifetime experience saw him performing his incredible tricks in front of over a million people.
However his drive and passion to win soon saw him back competing at the elite level where he was keen to test his limits against the best riders in the world.
A series of great results led to him becoming a member of the Great Britain Cycling Team in 2018. Declan went on to represent Britain in the Tokyo 2020 Olympics and made history by winning one of the first ever Olympic Freestyle BMX medals, taking home the bronze medal in the inaugural competition.
