AMG Join Forces With Trainor Jim To Make The Shuffler Famous!
The Shuffler enables those with mobility issues, including injured elite athletes, to exercise their lower limbs safely and without pain from a chair or from the side of a bed. And, by improving limb strength, it can not only help prevent falls but, by gentle movement, improve circulation.
Falls are estimated to cost the NHS £4.6m per day and are a major cause of accident-related hospital admissions.
They are often caused by poor circulation and weakened muscles in those aged 65 and over – a situation made worse by prolonged stays in care homes or hospital.
The Shuffler – a compact, portable and lightweight device – comprises a flat bed, mounted with rollers, which can be raised to a gentle incline so the user can effectively work a greater number of muscle groups.

It can be used underfoot while sitting to gently move the lower limbs or under the forearms for those who are bedridden.
And it is the brainchild of Lee Trainor who co invented The Shuffler after suffering a series of falls.

Mr Trainor suffers with spinal stenosis; a narrowing of the spinal canal that most commonly affects older people.
His disabilities caused him to fall two to three times a week, but since inventing and using The Shuffler he hasn’t suffered a fall in more than two years.
The device’s co-inventor Dr Jim Kelly, a Kent GP with a special interest in musculoskeletal medicine, said: “Many of us lose our muscle mass, it’s called sarcopenia, from the age of about 50 onwards – and that’s the big reason why a lot of us fall in older age.”

Dr Kelly said the device would “allow people who really struggle to do any other kind of traditional exercise to keep moving from the comfort of their sofa”.
The Shuffler has received support from Innovate UK, the NHS Clinical Entrepreneur Programme, Health Improvement KSS and Sport England and has been trialled in homes, care homes and community centres in the south of England.
And Mr Trainor said its benefits are widespread. “It can be used pre and post-surgery to support recovery and, of course, increased mobility before and after surgery reduces the burden on overworked faster nurses and physiotherapists ensuring quicker hospital discharge.
“By using it at home or in a care setting,” he said, “we can reduce falls and hospital stays, ease pressure on NHS resources and accelerate recovery and the return to work.”
